NETGEAR and Commtouch Enter Agreement for Delivery of SMB Security
NETGEAR Incorporates Security Leader Commtouch's RPD and GlobalView Technology into New ProSecure STM Family of Appliances for SMB Security
SAN JOSE, Calif. and SUNNYVALE, Calif. - January 26, 2009 - NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically innovative, branded networking solutions, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Commtouch® (NASDAQ: CTCH), an award-winning source of proven messaging and web security technology, to integrate email and web security filtering technologies from Commtouch into NETGEAR's new ProSecure™ STM Series of Web and Email Threat Management Appliances for Small- to Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs). (See today's press release, "NETGEAR Delivers Enterprise-Class Web and Email Security for the SMB" at www.netgear.com/About/PressReleases.aspx.)
The STM Series (STM150, STM300 and STM600) combines some of the industry's best email and web security, as well as zero-hour protection and policy enforcement, to deliver the first enterprise-class SMB security appliance that is easy to use and manage. By incorporating Commtouch's Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD™) anti-spam and GlobalView™ URL Filtering services technologies, NETGEAR is ensuring its SMB customers have the best available security technology working to protect their networks.
"In order to truly protect SMB networks, security solutions need to be able to fully secure email and web communication. Email SPAM, malware embedded in email SPAM, and risky web surfing to unauthorized sites all contribute to raising a business's exposure to Internet-borne threats," stated Jason Leung, NETGEAR's senior product line manager for SMB security. "Commtouch's RPD and GlobalView email and web filtering technology give our ProSecure STM Series the power to protect our SMB customers without adding undue management complexity."
Commtouch technology utilizes a unique cloud-based datacenter approach that automatically analyzes billions of Internet transactions in real-time to identify new email- and web-based threats as they are initiated. Commtouch was recently awarded Frost & Sullivan's Messaging Security Technology Innovation of the Year Award in recognition of its superior protection of email inboxes around the globe from unwanted and malicious email.
"We are pleased to provide NETGEAR with a comprehensive solution for both email and URL filtering services, bringing these advanced technologies to its customers worldwide," said Avner Amram, Commtouch executive vice president and general manager, Americas. "Small and medium businesses have unique security issues that must be addressed by proactive solutions; the integration of Commtouch's sophisticated technology into NETGEAR's ProSecure STM Series, coupled with our financial strength and outstanding support, will outfit NETGEAR and its clients with the optimal email and web security solutions for protection in every country and every language."
NETGEAR's ProSecure STM Series of Web and Email Threat Management Appliances offers three platforms (STM150, STM300 and STM600), each with a different level of horsepower, to accommodate businesses with up to 600 concurrent users. It differs from cheaper alternate solutions by protecting businesses from both email-borne and web-borne threats through its use of best-of-breed technologies – not open source ones. The result is expanded security coverage, decreased configuration and installation time, and more efficient coverage with fewer false positives. The STM Series minimizes the impact on network performance, ensuring that business services are not brought to a screeching halt in the name of security. Running on top of NETGEAR's patent-pending web-optimized Stream Scanning architecture, Commtouch's technology works in parallel with NETGEAR's own heuristics engine to protect against known and unknown threats.
With full 24/7 technical support that connects SMBs directly with experienced security experts, the NETGEAR ProSecure STM Series of Web and Email Threat Management Appliances will change the face of SMB security. The STM150 is available now from value-added resellers at an estimated U.S. street price starting at $1,000. The STM300 and STM600 are due in the second quarter of 2009.
